TL1A is a cytokine with an unusual position in the immune system. It drives mucosal inflammation, and at the same time it drives the fibrosis that causes long-term complications in inflammatory bowel disease.
A therapy that only blocks inflammation can leave fibrosis untouched. A therapy that only blocks fibrosis can leave acute inflammation untouched. TL1A is a single target where both pathways converge, which is why we built BPC-612.
